Earlier in September, Ford unveiled a game-changing addition to its electric vehicle lineup—the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally. This vehicle represents Ford's first-ever foray into electric rally cars and aims to demonstrate how electric vehicles can excel in different terrains, specifically dirt roads. By doing so, the Mach-E Rally broadens the horizons of what electric vehicles can achieve, especially within the storied Mustang family.
Performance Metrics
A key feature of the Mustang Mach-E Rally is its adapted powertrain. The vehicle runs on a tuned version of the Mustang Mach-E GT powertrain. This re-engineered setup targets a minimum torque of 650 lb.-ft. and aims to deliver a hefty 480 horsepower. The powertrain includes a dual-motor layout, designed to offer peak performance, especially under rally conditions.
Range and Charging
With a lithium-ion battery boasting 91 kWh of usable capacity, the Mustang Mach-E Rally is estimated to offer a range of up to 400 kilometres, as per EPA estimates. When it comes to charging, the car is designed to recharge from 10% to 80% in approximately 36 and a half minutes via a DC Fast Charger. This feature adds to the vehicle's overall utility, making it more adaptable to various driving conditions and needs.
Suspension and Handling
Unlike the standard Mustang Mach-E GT, the Rally edition comes with a unique, raised suspension—20 mm higher than its GT counterpart. Additionally, the suspension system features specialty-tuned springs and MagneRide shocks to ensure optimum handling and performance on dirt roads.
Brakes and Wheels
The braking system includes substantial 385 mm front brake rotors, complete with red-painted Brembo-branded calipers. This robust braking setup complements the vehicle's high-torque performance. When it comes to wheel design, the Mach-E Rally features 19-inch rally-style alloy wheels, coated in gloss white. These wheels are wrapped in 235/55 R19 Michelin CrossClimate2 tires designed for improved grip on loose surfaces.
Aesthetics and Color Options
The Mustang Mach-E Rally isn't just about performance; it also focuses on visual appeal. Each car comes standard with two racing stripes and can be ordered in various eye-catching colors. The available color palette includes Grabber Blue, Shadow Black, Eruption Green, and Grabber Yellow. Extra cost color options like Star White and the new Glacier Gray are also available.
The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally adds a new dimension to Ford's electric vehicle offerings. It combines high-performance specs with unique design features aimed at rallying and off-road terrains. While it retains the essence of the Mustang family, it takes the electric vehicle technology to untapped areas, promising a blend of power, range, and agility in a new and exciting context.
